TWO BROTHERS SAY THEY CAN KEEP DRIVERS COOL, PROTECT THEIR CARS, AND SAVE MILLIONS OF GALLONS OF GASOLINE ANNUALLY
(Lighthouse Point, Florida -- October 13, 2009) Reflectionite®, founded this year by brothers Jimmy and Burke Wood, reports that its Cool Cap Heat Blocking Car Cover® product launch has resulted in an overwhelmingly positive response from customers.
In July, they launched a campaign of two-minute direct response TV ads that featured the Cool Cap® inventor, and company co-founder, Jimmy “Cool Cap” Wood as the pitchman. Viewers across the country were introduced to his answer to the auto sunshade – the Cool Cap Heat Blocking Car Cover®. According to Jimmy, the biggest difference between the Cool Cap® and a sunshade is that, “the Cool Cap® actually works!” The company reports that its advertising campaign resulted in sales reaching more than 37 states, as well as Canada and Puerto Rico.
The Cool Cap® is a reflective car cover made out of the company’s own Reflectionite® fabric. Unlike a full size car cover, the Cool Cap® covers only the roof and windows of a vehicle. Reflectionite® CEO Burke Wood says that, “Most people consider full car covers a pain, and more importantly – they don’t block the heat. The Cool Cap® is easy to use, and it completely stops heat from getting into your car’s interior.”
In their testing, the Woods have recorded temperatures as high as 210ºF on the dashboards of vehicles on 90ºF and hotter days. Jimmy Wood says, “Those are scalding temperatures that can actually burn people, especially children.” They say cars that are covered with the Cool Cap® in the same conditions remain around 90ºF.
The Woods say the Cool Cap® is the logical alternative to sunshades because it provides more than 5 times the coverage from the outside of the vehicle. “People just look at it on a car, and get it. They tell me why it works!” says the inventor. With sunshade sales estimated at 1.5 million annually, at prices between $9 and $59, the brothers say there are plenty of customers out there looking for an effective device to keep their cars cool.
Inventor Jimmy Wood says that, "A major benefit of the Cool Cap® is that it eliminates the ‘cool down period’ when you first get into a car that’s been baking in the sun.”
J. Kurt Lucas of Sarasota, Florida, one of Reflectionite®’s first customers writes, “What a difference. I drive a black Bentley and the Cool Cap® has changed the interior temperature dramatically! It’s nice to get into my car that cools down so fast now.” Another customer, Robin Adcock, of Fresno, California, says his Cool Cap® “keeps the inside of the car as cool as a cucumber in over 100 degree heat!”
The brothers say there is a huge economic and environmental benefit to their product. “Eliminating the need to crank your AC saves a lot of gas.” A recent study commissioned by the California Air Resources Board estimated that simply using your car’s AC increases gas usage by as much as 22%.
The Woods believe that eliminating the need for extended cool down periods could help save millions of gallons of gasoline annually. “With a Cool Cap®, your vehicle is not starting out at 150 plus degrees. The interior, and all that thermal mass, does not have to cool down dramatically. You just put your AC on low and go!”
